A new study by the Wayne State Community College automobile course in Detroit shows that smoking in your car can cause damage to the cars electronics as well as the important gauges on the dashboard. Dr. Gregory Lincoln, director of the automobile course commented on it. "I can admit I am a smoker. I've smoked in my car since I've got it and about three weeks ago, I noticed my radio was on the fritz, and my car was only three years old." He then assigned a project to the students to research what this would do to your car. "The results were pretty clear. Smoking damages your electronics. They have certain fuses that don't work if they sense smoke. I have now stopped smoking inside my car ever since I replaced my radio." Another threat with smoking was the result it had on the gauges in the dashboard, specifically the speedometer. James Thomas, one of the students, recently received a speeding ticket because of the smoke. He commented, "My dad smokes, and every now and then I get to borrow his car. Recently I was out on I-96, and a state trooper pulled my over for going 80. I told him the speedometer only read 66, and he still gave me the ticket." James reported the incident to Dr. Lincoln, and they decided to study that as well. It turns out that smoking also causes the fuses on the speedometer to kind of mess up too.
